Ahmedabad: A 20-year-old man from Kheda district was allegedly cheated of Rs 32,890 by fraudsters posing as recruiters from a leading automobile company. An FIR was registered with Gujarat University police on Thursday.The complainant, who lives in a paying guest facility near Vijay Crossroads in Ahmedabad, told police that he received a call on July 17 from a woman claiming to be a company recruiter. She allegedly offered him a supervisor’s job and asked him to pay Rs 3,185 for a company kit.She later emailed him a purported training letter bearing the company’s branding. The document mentioned a training centre in Vejalpur, Ahmedabad.Police said the complainant then received calls from two other women, who asked him to share his documents on WhatsApp and deposit more money for opening a salary account. They allegedly claimed that new banking rules did not allow zero-balance salary accounts.The FIR states that the student transferred Rs 3,750 and Rs 6,250 as instructed. On July 22, another caller allegedly demanded GST charges for dispatching the employment kit. As he did not have sufficient funds, the complainant borrowed money from three friends, who transferred Rs 20,940 through UPI to the account provided by the accused.The alleged fraud came to light after the callers stopped responding. Suspecting cheating, the complainant visited the address mentioned in the training letter and found that no training centre of the company existed there, the FIR states.
