Ahmedabad: Colleges and universities in Gujarat will conduct a final mop-up round to fill vacant undergraduate and postgraduate seats for the 2025-26 academic year. The Gujarat Common Admission Services (GCAS) portal will open for the mop-up round from Sep 7, according to a communication issued by the state education department.
The decision came after several requests from universities, colleges, students, parents and student organisations for another opportunity to fill seats left vacant after the last round. Across the state, nearly 1 lakh undergraduate seats have remained vacant after the final round of GCAS admission process.
Students who have not registered on the GCAS portal can now register and submit their applications online. They will have to complete their profiles and upload the required documents. Students who have already registered can log in and edit their applications on the GCAS portal. They can update their college, university, programme and major-subject preferences after consulting the institution where they seek admission.
Colleges and universities will verify the eligibility of applicants before offering admission. They will have to follow their existing rules on eligibility, merit calculation, tie-breakers and reservation.
Institutions will also have to verify original documents before accepting fees. The college or university will then generate the admission offer on the GCAS portal and confirm the admission.
The concerned college or university will decide the final admission deadline. It will have to ensure that the process does not clash with academic activities or the university exam calendar.
GCAS has directed universities and colleges to publish detailed guidelines, including the final admission date, programme-wise vacant seats, document verification and fee procedures.
The guidelines will be circulated through institutional websites, notice boards, social media and other available platforms. The department has described the mop-up round as the final stage of admissions for 2025-26. It has asked universities and colleges to complete the process within the prescribed timeframe.
