Gurgaon: Nuh police arrested a groom and registered a case against four Thar drivers on Sunday after a video showing wedding guests sitting and standing on the roofs of moving vehicles surfaced on social media.Police said the action was initiated after sub-inspector Yashpal, posted at Nagina police station, came across the video while on patrol and law-and-order duty in Mandikhera village on June 7.Police said the video showed the wedding procession of Aqib, a resident of Nai Nangla village, travelling towards Chandeni village. “Several youths were seen sitting and standing on the roofs of Thar SUVs as the vehicles were being driven at high speed along public roads,” an officer said.During the investigation, police identified the vehicles seen in the video and found that the drivers had allegedly allowed passengers to travel on the roofs while driving. Police said the act posed a risk not only to the occupants but also to other road users.A police team subsequently reached Nai Nangla village, but the wedding procession had already left. During inquiries, police learned that the groom had allegedly insisted that his friends travel on the roofs of the vehicles during the procession, saying, “A wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime occasion.”Police registered a case against Aqib and the four drivers under sections 125 (act endangering life), 285 (danger or obstruction in a public way or line of navigation), 281 (rash driving) and 61 (criminal conspiracy) of BNS. Officials said the groom was subsequently arrested. This is the second such action by Nuh police in recent weeks. Earlier, a similar case was registered in the Tauru Sadar police station area after videos of dangerous stunts during a wedding procession surfaced.Police said the crackdown was aimed at curbing reckless behaviour on roads and ensuring compliance with traffic rules. Officers warned that dangerous stunts and other acts endangering public safety during weddings or celebrations would invite strict legal action.
