Koraput: Commissioner of railway safety (CRS), south-eastern circle, Brijesh Kumar Mishra, has cleared the newly doubled Baiguda-Kakiriguma railway section under Koraput-Singapur Road doubling project after carrying out a two-day statutory inspection, paving way for its commissioning. The 12.385-km second line between Baiguda and Kakiriguma stations in Rayagada division of East Coast Railway was inspected on July 9 and 10. The CRS then examined track geometry, bridges, signalling and telecommunication systems, overhead electrification installations and other safety-related infrastructure to assess the section’s readiness for operations.A comprehensive motor trolley inspection of the entire stretch was also conducted, followed by speed trials to verify safety and operational standards of the newly laid line.“Successful commissioning of the Baiguda-Kakiriguma doubling section marks another significant milestone in the Koraput-Singapur Road doubling project. It will substantially enhance line capacity, improve operational efficiency and ensure smoother movement of both passenger and freight trains,” East Coast Railway said in a statement.According to railway officials, the doubling project is expected to strengthen rail connectivity in the region while reducing congestion on the existing line. Once fully completed, the project will facilitate faster train movement, improve punctuality and support the growing transportation requirements of southern Odisha and adjoining areas.Senior officers from ECR headquarters, Rayagada division and the construction organisation accompanied the CRS during the inspection.“The commissioning of this section reflects East Coast Railway’s continued commitment to strengthening rail infrastructure and executing capacity enhancement projects in a time-bound manner. It will improve operational efficiency, augment freight and passenger services, and provide safer, faster and more reliable rail transport for the region,” the statement added.
