Chandigarh: AICC general secretary and Sirsa MP Kumari Selja on Sunday targeted the BJP govt over the closure of the Narwana grain market, calling it a direct result of its “flawed and unorganised policies.“The former Union minister said newly imposed crop-sale conditions forced commission agents (arhtiyas) into a corner, leading to the mandi’s shutdown. She alleged farmers, traders and labourers are now bearing the brunt of these policies. Selja further claimed that unnecessary restrictions are being imposed on farmers while traders are being pressured. Urging the govt to revise its policies and introduce practical solutions, she warned that a failure to take corrective measures could severely impact the state’s agricultural and trading systems. Former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda and INLD chief Abhay Singh Chautala have also accused the govt of using restrictions to discourage procurement and force outside sales. Chief minister Nayab Singh Saini and his ministers have dismissed the allegations, with the govt appointing ACS-level bureaucrats as district in-charges to oversee the process.
