Guwahati: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday assured flood-hit families of comprehensive govt support, announcing that a door-to-door survey of damaged households will begin on Aug 9 to ensure relief and rehabilitation reach every eligible beneficiary.During a visit to Sivasagar, the worst-affected district in this year’s floods, Sarma interacted with inmates at a relief camp and reviewed ongoing relief operations. He said the state govt would verify the extent of damage suffered by each affected family before disbursing rehabilitation assistance.Officials will visit every flood-affected household from Aug 9 to conduct a detailed ground assessment of losses, he said, adding that the exercise is intended to ensure transparency and prevent any eligible beneficiary from being left out.“We are taking feedback from every affected family to see if they have received relief and help. Starting from Aug 9, our teams will reach every home of the affected families to conduct a ground assessment of the damage,” he wrote in a post on X.CM said the survey would help the govt accurately assess losses and expedite compensation and rehabilitation measures.Reiterating the govt’s commitment to flood victims, Sarma wrote, “I want to assure every flood-affected family in Assam that in this difficult time, the govt stands with them at every step. From rehabilitation to restoring life to normalcy, every possible assistance will be provided. Today, in a relief camp in Sivasagar, I reiterated this very resolve.”During his visit, Sarma also interacted with families staying at the relief camp and reviewed the availability of food, drinking water, health care facilities and other essential services. He directed officials to ensure there is no disruption in relief distribution and that all basic amenities remain available until families can safely return home.Sivasagar has recorded the highest number of flood-related deaths in Assam this year, prompting the state govt to intensify relief and rehabilitation efforts in the district. The govt has initiated restoration of damaged roads and other public infrastructure, distributed relief materials and begun preliminary damage assessments in several affected districts.Officials said the household survey starting Aug 9 will create a comprehensive database of losses, enabling the administration to speed up compensation, rehabilitation and other assistance for flood-affected families across the state.
