Patna: Education minister Mithilesh Tiwari on Tuesday said the state govt will soon begin the process of filling vacant posts in the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), adding that a requisition would be sent to the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) for recruitment.Chairing a review meeting of SCERT officials at Vikas Bhawan, the minister issued a series of directions aimed at strengthening teacher training and improving learning outcomes.Tiwari said students of Classes I to V would be taught in regional languages, including Bhojpuri, Magahi, Maithili and Angika, along with Hindi, in line with the Centre’s guidelines. He said the move would help children learn more effectively in their mother tongue during the foundational years.Reviewing the functioning of District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs), the minister directed officials to study the working models of SCERTs in other states and adopt best practices. He also asked officials to conduct regular school visits to monitor implementation and assess the quality of education.The minister said a special training programme for teacher trainers would be organised in Patna in Aug to improve the quality of teacher education across the state. He also directed officials to strengthen Sanskrit education and ensure quality teaching of the language.Tiwari asked officials to focus on skill development for students of Classes VI to VIII. He also directed schools to use the Saturday’s “No Bag Day” programme to spread awareness about cleanliness and Hepatitis B prevention, adding the campaign could reach nearly two crore students and their families.Schools were also directed to ensure the regular singing of Vande Mataram and the national anthem.Officials informed the minister that guidebooks on teacher development, arts and sports, libraries, ICT and ISM laboratories had been prepared. Supplementary books for Classes VI to VIII have also been developed, they said.
