Thiruvananthapuram: Tourism minister P C Vishnunadh on Tuesday said govt would cover the medical expenses of all those injured in the accident at Nileswaram near Kottarakara.A truck rammed into a bus bay, killing three people, including a school boy, on Tuesday morning.After visiting the accident site, Vishnunadh told reporters that providing monetary relief to the dependents of those who died was being considered by govt, though it would require cabinet approval. The accident is deeply distressing, he said. The matter will be brought to chief minister’s attention, he added.According to preliminary findings by police, the crash appears to have been caused by a speeding tipper truck. The accident occurred when the speeding vehicle lost control while negotiating a divider.Vishnunadh said police would carry out a more detailed investigation.The minister also said govt was taking public concerns over regulation of tipper trucks very seriously. “Road safety, especially the safety of schoolchildren and pedestrians, remains one of govt’s top priorities. Steps will be taken to prevent such tragedies from happening again,” he said.On learning of the incident, ministers Vishnunadh and Bindu Krishna left the assembly session and reached the accident site. They also visited Kottarakkara taluk hospital, where the injured are undergoing treatment, along with Kodikunnil Suresh, MP.
