Nagpur: Maharashtra govt has approved the transfer of 2.04 hectares of govt land in Gadchiroli for construction of a sewage treatment plant (STP) under the AMRUT scheme, clearing a major hurdle in the city’s long-pending wastewater management project. The decision follows directions issued by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, after which revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule approved the proposal to provide govt land from Survey No. 48 at Mouza Gadchiroli to the Gadchiroli Municipal Council on an occupancy basis.A Govt Resolution issued by the Revenue and Forest Department stated that the land would be transferred after recovery of the prescribed value under the provisions of the Maharashtra Land Revenue Code. The proposed STP forms part of the AMRUT scheme, under which urban infrastructure and civic amenities are being expanded across Maharashtra. Authorities believe project will help address long-standing concerns over untreated wastewater discharge and support urban expansion in Gadchiroli. The govt has attached several conditions to the approval. The land can be used exclusively for the sewage treatment plant project and cannot be diverted for any other purpose. The municipal council will also have to obtain all required permissions from planning authorities and comply with environmental regulations and statutory clearances before execution of the project. The govt has further reserved the right to reclaim the land in case of violation of conditions or misuse of the allotted property.Officials in the Revenue Department said the state was committed to expediting administrative procedures for public welfare infrastructure projects to ensure timely implementation. In a statement issued alongside the decision, the govt said the state was prioritising quality urban infrastructure in every city. It said the Gadchiroli STP project would strengthen sanitation systems, promote environmental conservation and contribute to the protection of public health.
