Srinagar, Sep 21: Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly (JKLA) and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sunil Sharma on Monday accused the National Conference-led government of failing to address pressing public concerns and now “running away” from issues being raised by the Opposition in the House.
Speaking to reporters after the adjournment of the House, Sharma said the BJP would continue to raise issues concerning employees, workers, unemployed youth and ordinary households, and demand clear answers from the government.
He said concerns of NHM employees, ASHA and Anganwadi workers, GRS, technical staff and daily wagers could not be ignored, particularly when thousands of families depended on these jobs for their livelihoods.
The LoP also targeted the government over the increase in power tariffs, saying the rising cost of electricity was adding to the financial burden on households.
He said the Opposition would also continue to raise the issue of cooperative bank victims and seek resolution of their grievances.
“When genuine public concerns are raised in the Assembly, it is the responsibility of the government to provide clear answers. The Opposition will continue to raise the voice of the people and seek accountability from the government,” Sharma said. The LoP said the BJP would not allow issues affecting the people to be pushed to the background.
Sharma said employment security, regularisation, livelihoods, rising electricity costs, public services and opportunities for the youth were matters requiring concrete answers and a clear roadmap from the government. “The BJP will not remain silent on issues affecting the people of Jammu & Kashmir. As a responsible Opposition, we will continue to question the government, demand answers and ensure that the concerns of the people reach the floor of the House,” he said.
LoP Sharma reiterated that the Opposition would continue to discharge its constitutional and democratic responsibility by raising matters of public importance and seeking accountability from the government.
