Srinagar, Oct 06: Four months after his suspension over allegations related to cardiac procedures and claims under PMJAY-SEHAT insurance scheme, the J&K Government on Tuesday revoked the suspension of Dr Syed Maqbool Ahmad Shah, Associate Professor of Cardiology at GMC Jammu.
The Health and Medical Education Department in an order said, “in terms of Rule 31(3) of the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1956, and as per the recommendations of Suspension Review Committee, the suspension of Dr. Syed Maqbool Ahmad Shah is hereby revoked and the officer is reinstated in service with immediate effect.”
The order said consequent upon revocation of suspension, the said cardiologist has been directed to report for duties forthwith at his original place of posting, i.e., GMC Jammu.
“The period of suspension shall be decided separately, upon conclusion of the departmental proceedings, in accordance with the provisions of the applicable service rules,” the order said.
Earlier in July this year, the Government had constituted a high-level inquiry committee to conduct an audit and data analysis of cardiology cases performed at GMC Anantnag under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY)/AB PM-JAY SEHAT scheme.
It was tasked to examine findings of an earlier expert committee and carry out a comprehensive review of cardiology procedures undertaken under the flagship health scheme.
The panel scrutinized the findings and recommendations of the expert committee besides examining the written statement of defence and supplementary submissions submitted by the cardiologist.
On June 20, the cardiologist was suspended by the government following allegations levelled against him in a departmental memorandum; however, the doctor had then termed the accusations as ‘fabricated.’ The cardiologist was also attached in the office of Government Medical College, Jammu. Later, the government started its preliminary inquiry.
