T’puram: The UDF govt ordered a further probe in the case related to the alleged attack on former health minister Veena George during a black flag protest by KSU activists at Kannur railway station on Feb 25, 2026. This is the third order for further investigation issued by the UDF govt in this case.Govt ordered an SIT probe after Kannur MLA T O Mohanan, who alleged that the case had been fabricated and sought a detailed investigation, filed a complaint. An officer with SP rank will head the further investigation. The case is currently being investigated by the railway police force.Police had registered a case for attempt to murder and other charges and arrested KSU district president M C Athul, district treasurer Akshay M, C H Mubas, Mohammed Yassin and Bidul Balan. They were later released on bail. The case was registered based on the statement of George’s gunman, who alleged that protesters had grabbed her neck, causing injuries. But police failed to recover a weapon from the spot.According to the complaint, railway police force, which initially investigated the case, examined CCTV footage but could not find evidence that KSU activists had assaulted George. Though the police had initially booked the accused under 13 BNS sections, it dropped the attempted murder charge later due to the lack of evidence.After assuming office, the UDF govt had ordered SIT probes in several cases. Earlier, an SIT took up the Nava Kerala assault case for further probe. In 2023, the then CM’s security team had assaulted Youth Congress protesters and SIT’s further probe led to significant developments in that case. The UDF govt then launched SIT probes into the attacks on UDF activists during Chevayur cooperative bank elections and also the Kafir screenshot case.
