Patna: In a major relief for haemophilia patients, the state health department has approved the MukhyamantriHaemophiliaYojana, under which the state will procure Emicizumab, an advanced non-factor drug, used in the treatment of the blood disorder. The govt has sanctioned Rs26.33crore for the first year of the scheme. The scheme will be implemented through the MukhyamantriChikitsaSahayataKosh and is aimed at making advanced haemophilia treatment more affordable and accessible for patients across the state.Haemophilia is a hereditary bleeding disorder that often requires lifelong treatment and regular medication. Advanced therapies such as Emicizumab are expensive, placing a significant financial burden on patients and their families. The new scheme seeks to ease that burden by ensuring the availability of the drug through government support.Health minister NishantKumar said improving access to treatment for haemophilia patients remains a priority for the department. “Oureffortistoensurethathaemophiliapatientsinthestatedonotfaceanydifficultyinaccessingtreatmentandreceivequalitymedicalcareontime,” the minister said.Officials said the procurement of Emicizumab would enable patients to access a modern and effective treatment option that is often beyond the reach of economically weaker families because of its high cost. The health department believes the initiative will strengthen care for haemophilia patients and reduce out-of-pocket expenditure on treatment. The government’s financial support is expected to particularly benefit families that struggle to meet the recurring costs associated with the disorder.Officials said the scheme marks a significant step towards expanding access to specialised healthcare in Bihar and ensuring better treatment outcomes for haemophilia patients through timely availability of essential medicines.
