Nana Patole at Congress Bhavan on Friday

Pune: Opposition on Friday took a dig at the state govt after police imposed 30 conditions for Rahul Gandhi’s “Chhatron ki Goonj” event in the city, where he will interact with girl students on Saturday.Former state Congress president Nana Patole said, “Rahul Gandhi is not an externed criminal, but the leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha. He is coming for an interaction with students. Two members of his family sacrificed their lives for the country, but BJP is treating him as if he is conducting some undemocratic activity.”After Kota, Dehradun and Prayagraj, “Chhatron ki Goonj” initiative of the Congress would be held at Pune’s AISSMS College ground. The Pune city police laid down 30 conditions while giving permission for it, prompting the opposition to accuse the state govt of misusing the police force to create hurdles for the event. The 30 conditions for Rahul’s event includes a ban on the use of drone cameras for video shooting. The police barred any photo, banner or picture which could lead to law and order situation, and any statement that might hurt religious sentiments.Taking a swipe at the state govt, NCP (SP) working president Supriya Sule said it had failed to control crime in Pune but proactively laid down several conditions for a political event. “The leader of the opposition is visiting Pune to interact with students in a democratic manner. Then why did the police impose so many conditions? Pune city has been witnessing the menace of koyta gang and other criminal elements, but the police failed to apply similar conditions against them,” Supriya said.Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Raut took a dig at BJP and said the party was jealous because Rahul was getting a good response. “BJP can’t attract a crowd for its leaders anymore and the party is unable to digest the fact that Rahul is getting overwhelming support. It is trying to impose restrictions out of that jealousy,” Raut said.Rahul will interact with girl students during his Pune visit. Congress members said over 10,000 students were expected to attend the event.
