Panaji: The directorate of agriculture has announced that the Digital Crop Survey (DCS), an initiative under Govt of India’s AgriStack programme, is currently being carried out across Goa to create accurate, real-time records of crops being cultivated in agricultural fields.The DCS is a mobile-based system launched by Indian govt to record real-time data on crops sown across every agricultural plot.In a public notice issued on Wednesday, the department said its official surveyors are visiting agricultural fields across Goa to record details of crops currently under cultivation.The department has sought the cooperation of farmers during the field-level exercise, asking them to provide information about the crops being grown and maintain basic details about the crop varieties cultivated during the current season, ready for the surveyors.The agriculture department has also issued a clarification to address concerns farmers may have about the purpose of the exercise. It stated that the Digital Crop Survey is only for recording crop-related information and is not a survey of land ownership, land title or tenancy rights.According to the notice, the exercise is only limited to documenting what is being cultivated in the fields.The notice said that maintaining accurate and real-time records of crops will help ensure that govt farming schemes, subsidies and other forms of agricultural assistance reach more effectively.The agriculture department has appealed to farmers to cooperate when survey teams visit their fields.
