Ranchi: State govt has accorded administrative approval for a Rs 36.30-crore project to upgrade the 2.6-km stretch from Dhurwa intersection to the police headquarters on the Birsa Chowk-Project Bhawan-Chandni Chowk road in the city.Besides widening and strengthening the carriageway, the project will include a cycle track, landscaping, beautification and other civic infrastructure. The project aims at improving traffic flow and urban infrastructure in one of the busiest administrative corridors.According to a notification issued by the office of road construction department’s joint secretary, Priscilla Murmu, the project will include geometric improvements, construction of a dedicated cycle track, utility shifting, rehabilitation and resettlement, horticulture with one-year maintenance, public amenities, beautification works, implementation of an environmental management plan and plantation.The integrated upgrade aims to improve traffic flow while enhancing the corridor’s urban landscape.Department secretary Sunil Kumar said, “The project has been designed to improve both mobility and commuter safety on one of Ranchi’s key govt corridors. The objective is not merely road widening but creating a safer and more organised urban corridor with facilities for pedestrians and cyclists, along with better landscaping and environmental safeguards.”Kumar said the tender process is currently under way, and work is expected to begin within a month after the bidding process is completed. “We expect to complete the project in around 10 months,” he said.The stretch carries daily traffic past Project Bhawan, state police headquarters, educational institutions and residential neighbourhoods. Officials expect the upgrade to ease congestion, improve road geometry and provide dedicated space for non-motorised transport while giving the govt precinct a more uniform and aesthetically developed appearance.
