Nagpur: Gosikhurd national irrigation project in Vidarbha will be completed only by June 2028, with just 82% of its irrigation capacity created so far and rehabilitation still pending in 3 villages, the Assembly was informed on Thursday in a written reply by Water resources minister Girish Mahajan. The remaining land acquisition is to be finished by December 2026.The project’s foundation was laid in 1988 to irrigate about 2.50 lakh Ha in Nagpur, Bhandara and Chandrapur dists, but land acquisition, rehabilitation and funding problems had kept it from becoming operational even by April 2026. They alleged its cost had risen from 372.22 crore to about 25,972 crore, and that completed lift-irrigation schemes at Tekepar, Ambora, Mokhabadi and Nerla were not running at full capacity.
