Beyond AI overviews, Google is now experimenting with new monetisation models in the AI mode experience that involves live conversations with users, as per Dan Taylor, Vice President, Global Ads, Google during a media briefing.

“We’re reinventing ads for this new era of search to help both answer and inspire all at once, as people come to Google earlier in their journey to discover new products and services,” said Taylor, adding that the company has been testing ads in AI mode in the United States for a year.

The launch of new tools seeks to integrate AI directly into the ads on the search results page. The new ad formats rethink the ads look as well as the value added to the search experience, said the Vice President arguing that “the best ads are really just answers.”

Earlier in March, Taylor had said that advertising that appears next to, above, below or within AI Overviews monetise at the same approximate rate as traditional search result ads. The Gemini-integration into Google’s ad quality stack reduced the rates of irrelevant ads by 40 per cent, he said.

The new approach seeks to prepare ads for what Google termed as “the new era of search.” Stating that search has become a deeper tool for discovery and decision-making with conversational AI, Taylor listed how 84 per cent of people in India reported faster decisions and 87 per cent cited more confident decisions when using AI mode.

“It really comes back to how consumer behavior is changing,” he said.

The assertions came during Google launch of its new AI-powered tools for Indian businesses at the Google Marketing Live 2026. Among those, the Business Agent for Leads is available in beta in India. The Gemini-built tool puts a brand agent directly inside the ad to chat with a user and use the interaction as a lead. Similarly, YouTube BrandStack, an automated solution conceptualized and built in India deals with campaign planning, buying, and measurement.

“With 86 per cent of surveyed online Indians turning to Google Search and YouTube, Indian businesses have a tremendous opportunity to meet consumers where they are—and we are enabling that with Gemini,” said Roma Datta Chobey, Managing Director, Connected Consumer Commerce, Google India.

Gemini now acts as the engine for growth, moving beyond marketing automation to marketing intelligence, said Chobey. Other tools focus on driving campaign performance like AI Max for Shopping, AI Brief, Retention Only Mode in Performance Max and marketer tools like Ask Advisor.
