At the recent Economic Times Annual Education Summit, industry leaders and experts identified a critical reality: while AI is a powerful tool, its potential to improve learning outcomes depends entirely on the expertise and guidance of our teachers.
During the keynote, Sanjay Jain, India Head of Google for Education, emphasised that our mission is to move beyond the novelty of AI. He highlighted how we can shift the focus toward using these tools to solve real-world challenges in Indian classrooms, such as administrative burdens and the need for personalised student support. This vision of practical, impactful innovation serves as the foundation for the Google Educator AI Series (GES).
Designed for practical application
The GES provides the professional development needed to turn Sanjay’s vision into reality. Developed in collaboration with partners including the governments of Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Assam, the Union Territory of Ladakh, and the Punjab School Education Board, the series offers a scalable framework for AI literacy:
- Snackable and Stackable: Training is structured as bite-sized, mobile-first lessons designed to integrate seamlessly into an educator’s professional schedule.
- Pedagogy First: The focus is on practical implementation. Educators learn to leverage tools like Gemini and NotebookLM to streamline administrative tasks, personalise student learning, and enhance support in multilingual environments.
- Localised for India: To ensure equitable access, the program is rolling out in six languages: Assamese, Hindi, Marathi, Telugu, Odia, and Punjabi.
AI is not a silver bullet, but a powerful force multiplier when placed in the hands of a capable teacher. While technology drives efficiency, the fundamental character of education remains human.
