Bengaluru: A city court held a 28-year-old driver of a mini-goods vehicle guilty of causing the death of an auto driver in an accident and sentenced him to 3 months’ simple imprisonment with a fine of Rs 3,000.M Rehman Saab was driving back home when his vehicle rear-ended the autorickshaw driven by Yogesh SN, 19, in Nandini Layout around 11.40pm on May 3, 2023. Due to the collision, Yogesh and his friend Ningaraju were thrown out of the vehicle, and Yogesh later succumbed to head injuries. Rajajinagar traffic police charge-sheeted Rehman under then IPC Sections 279 (rash and negligent driving) and 304A (causing death due to negligence). Assistant public prosecutor Girija Shankar said statements by four eyewitnesses to the accident and documents produced by investigating officers helped clinch the conviction.
