Udupi: A gold chain worth Rs 6 lakh was robbed from a 61-year-old fish trader near Malpe Port on Friday. According to complainant Dayanand Kundar from Badanidiyoor village, who works in the fish trade at Malpe Port, he was heading towards the port around 4.40 am, when an accused enquired about fish. With the intention of robbery, the accused threw chilli powder on the complainant’s face and dragged him a short distance.Later, two more accused joined with a similar intent, showed a knife to the complainant, and demanded the gold chain from his neck. When the complainant refused, accused Muthanna and two unidentified individuals assaulted the complainant on the face and back with their hands.
They then dragged Kundar, robbed him of 6 sovereigns of a gold chain, and threatened to kill him if he reported the incident to police. A case was registered at Malpe police station under sections 309(6) (robbery), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), and 3(5) (common intention in committing crime) of the BNS.Scooter rider dies in accidentA scooter rider died after a goods vehicle collided with his vehicle at Arooru Cross in Brahmavar on Friday. The deceased is Shekhar T Kulal. The goods driver drove the vehicle at high speed and recklessly from Pethri towards Brahmavar, colliding with Kulal’s scooter from behind. As a result, Kulal fell to the right side of the goods vehicle, sustaining severe injuries to his head and hand.Kulal was immediately taken to a hospital in Brahmavar, where doctors examined him and declared that he passed away. A case was registered with Brahmavar police.
