Panaji: A four-decade-old power substation on the Goa University campus is being upgraded, with govt planning a new 33 kV substation at an estimated cost of Rs 12 crore.“The existing substation no longer has adequate capacity to meet the power requirements of the expanding campus,” said vice-chancellor Harilal B Menon.“The university’s present substation was designed at a time when the campus had considerably fewer buildings and facilities. Over the years, the institution has expanded, adding new academic and other infrastructure and consequently increasing its electricity requirements,” said Menon. He further said that the university would be able to energise or operationalise the facility once the necessary procedures are completed.
