Panaji: The tourism department has initiated the application process for granting permissions to place deck beds, umbrellas, tables, and chairs on beach stretches for the upcoming tourist season.Licensed private shack operators, hotels, and restaurants registered under the Goa Registration of Tourist Trade Act whose private properties share their western boundary with the beach can apply with the govt by October 30.Director of tourism Kedar Naik stated that eligibility is restricted to licensed hotels, restaurants, and private shack operators registered or applying under the Goa Registration of Tourist Trade Act, 1982, whose private properties directly share their western boundary with the government beach. Naik emphasized that permissions will strictly depend on space availability, site conditions, and high-tide line restrictions.According to Naik, approved operators must maintain a clear one-meter access lane for tourists, lifeguards, and emergency personnel, with all furniture required to be removed immediately after sunset. Naik noted that licensees are prohibited from erecting permanent or temporary structures, must paint their allotted license numbers on every deck bed set, and are mandated to maintain cleanliness, proper waste management, and report aggressive stray dog behavior in their designated zones.Naik said that establishments encroaching upon government beach land will not be considered, while applicants seeking renewals under the June 22 public notice must reapply accordingly.Outlining the strict operational terms, Naik stated that permissions will be granted only within demarcated areas subject to site feasibility, green vegetation, and High Tide Line restrictions.Naik warned that permissions remain subject to site inspections and can be revoked at any time for non-compliance.The fee structure includes a non-refundable application fee of Rs 10,000, a refundable security deposit of Rs 50,000 for new registrations, and a seasonal license fee of Rs 1,45,000 plus applicable taxes. Naik added that a separate non-refundable processing fee of Rs 12,100 must be paid directly to Goa Electronics Ltd.Naik said that all sites will undergo physical verification prior to approval, and permissions remain revocable at any time for non-compliance.
