Panaji: Goa police on Sunday carried out “Operation Cyber Vigil” across 11 states and arrested seven people.In addition, 24 accused have been served notices under the BNS directing them to join the investigation in connection with 40 different cases with an aggregate defrauded amount of Rs 2.5 crore.The coordinated operation targeted suspects linked to cyber-enabled financial fraud cases registered in Goa.As part of this large-scale operation, around 40 police teams conducted simultaneous investigations and raids at more than 40 locations across 11 states including West Bengal, Rajasthan, UP, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Kerala, Karnataka and Assam.The operation was jointly executed by the cyber crime police station, North Goa, South Goa and Kushavati police and the crime branch.During the raids, 21 electronic devices were seized for detailed forensic examination for further investigation.As part of the financial investigation, police identified 313 mule bank accounts linked to various cyber frauds within Goa. They were verified, including verification of their antecedents and assessment of their suspected involvement in larger organised cybercrime syndicates. During this exercise, the states where these mule accounts were reported were also contacted.
