Panaji: Goa Konkani Akademi (GKA) has launched a project to create an encyclopedia of individuals who contributed to the Konkani language, spanning literature, the freedom struggle, the language movement, and other fields. The Akademi said this is the first such initiative undertaken by state govt. It has been titled, ‘Konkani Bhasha Sahitya Shilpkar Kosh’.“The primary objective of this project is to preserve the glorious history of Konkani language and culture by documenting and introducing future generations to the pioneers, activists, writers, and artists who have made invaluable contributions to the Konkani movement, literature, folk art, music, cinema, education, research, and theatre,” GKA stated.To make the encyclopedia comprehensive, the Akademi has called on Goans to submit information across categories. These include freedom fighters and activists associated directly or indirectly with the Konkani movement.The documentation will cover poets, novelists, short story writers, essayists, translators, children’s authors, and writers working across Konkani dialects. The project will include contributors to theatre and performing arts, such as playwrights, directors, cinema artistes, tiatrists, musicians, dancers, and folk artistes. It will also document linguists, lexicographers, teachers, professors, and researchers in the fields of Konkani education and research.Journalists and professionals working in Konkani newspapers, periodicals, radio, television, and digital media will also be included.
