Noida: Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) intensified action against rampant defacement of public spaces following complaints from residents about unauthorised posters, banners, stickers and hoardings across the city. The Authority imposed fines worth Rs 2 lakh on four establishments for marring public spaces.Residents said they have been filing complaints on the issue for some time now, with little action taken until recently. In Beta 1, residents took to cleaning these posters on their own. Other areas where these posters are rampant include Alpha, Eta and Omega.“We have been consistently raising our voice against defacement of public spaces with posters, stickers, banners, etc.

These are of varied kinds like rental and PG accommodations, coaching institutes, cab services, etc, which are pasted randomly on signboards of residential sectors, tree trunks, electricity poles, boundary walls and bus stops, etc, marring the aesthetics and beauty of the city,” said Harinder Bhati, RWA general secretary of Beta 1.Jatan Singh, RWA president of Golf Link-1 in Omega 1, wrote to GNIDA’s Mukesh Kumar Singh, officer on special duty (OSD-Urban Services), on the issue. “Advertisements for hotels/PGs/rentals etc have been pasted over the boards installed by the Authority to prohibit commercial activities within the Golf Link-1 Society. We urge GNIDA to inspect the site and take appropriate action to safeguard public spaces,” he said.Alok Singh, an Alpha 1 resident, also urged GNIDA to launch a ‘snap a photo, impose a fine’ campaign and deploy a few officials to carry out enforcement. He also suggested that offenders be fined at least Rs 10,000.OSD Singh issued fines totalling Rs 2 lakh on four establishments on Thursday — three boys’ paying guest accommodations in Beta 1 and a car rental company in Eta 2. The Authority issued formal notices to these establishments through contact details mentioned on the posters, mandating the payment of fines within one week. Non-compliance will result in the initiation of legal recovery procedures through the issuance of recovery certificates (RCs), officials added.The action was carried out by the Authority’s urban services department. Senior manager Sunny Yadav said that similar inspection drives would continue to be conducted regularly in the city’s various sectors, markets and industrial areas in the future. “No leniency will be shown to any individual, organisation, coaching centre, PG, commercial establishment or other entity found violating the rules,” he said.
