Panaji: Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) on Friday issued notices to the secretary (health) and the member secretary of the Goa State Pollution Control Board on a complaint by residents of Prabhu’s Violetta Complex at Chicalim alleging water contamination.Last week, the commission had issued notices to the chief executive engineer of the department of drinking water, the assistant engineer of the water resources department, and builder Prabhu Realtors.When the matter came up on Friday, executive engineer, works division IV, department of drinking water, Dattaraj Pai Kakode, submitted that the water supply to Prabhu Violetta Complex was tested and found “safe, free of contamination and fit for drinking and other domestic consumption”.He stated that water to buildings A, B, C, D and E at Dabolim is supplied from a 300 cubic metre ground-level reservoir near NSD Cabolim through an independent 150mm diameter DI pipeline.The department said three water connections were released to the project, two for domestic use and one for a commercial establishment and that supply to the sump is maintained for over 12 hours daily. All connections were released in Dec 2022.The department said it inspected the site on March 18, and test reports dated March 20 for physical, chemical and bacteriological analysis of samples found the water “safe, free of contamination and fit for drinking and other domestic consumption”. The health department also collected samples of the departmental supply and informed that the water was safe and potable.
