New Delhi: Delhi govt has reviewed several infrastructure projects aimed at modernising the capital’s agricultural markets, with the Rs 193.3-crore poultry market at Ghazipur now 85% complete, according to officials.At a recent meeting chaired by CM Rekha Gupta, officials presented updates on ongoing and proposed projects in Ghazipur, Narela and the Integrated Freight Complex (IFC) at Ghazipur.Construction of the modern poultry market, spread across nearly 15 acres in Ghazipur, began in March 2019. The project is targeted for completion by Dec 31 this year. Once operational, the facility will accommodate 100 wholesale traders and 120 processing units, replacing existing infrastructure with a modern wholesale poultry market. This will help in better veterinary oversight, which will prevent disease and ensure safe chicken for families, said a senior official.Delhi govt also reviewed drainage improvement works at the Ghazipur fruit, vegetable and flower market. A 200-metre bypass drainage pipeline is being laid at an approved cost of Rs 17 lakh to address persistent waterlogging in the market. At the meeting, officials said regular drives are being carried out to remove stray animals from the mandi to improve sanitation.Another project that was reviewed was the proposed construction of two steel sheds at the Narela grain market. Estimated to cost about Rs 11 crore, the sheds are intended to create additional covered space for traders. The project is expected to be completed by July 2027.The meeting also took stock of plans for a modern flower market at the Integrated Freight Complex in Ghazipur. Officials said the project will be developed in phases on 10 acres of land acquired from DDA in 2001.Gupta said Delhi govt was focusing on upgrading agricultural markets with modern infrastructure to improve trading conditions and strengthen the city’s agricultural marketing network. She directed officials to ensure all projects are executed within the stipulated timelines.“Redevelopment of the markets forms part of govt’s efforts to improve infrastructure across Delhi’s mandis, with projects ranging from wholesale market modernisation and drainage improvements to the creation of additional trading facilities and a dedicated flower market,” said a senior Delhi govt official.
