Guwahati: With focus on building awareness, leadership, and youth participation in the fight against HIV/AIDS, Gauhati University recently hosted the state-level Red Ribbon Youth Conclave on its campus.The conclave was jointly organised by Red Ribbon Club, Gauhati University, and the Assam State AIDS Control Society. The programme was inaugurated by Gauhati University registrar Prof Utpal Sarma, in the presence of D Karthigueane, regional director, NSS, NER, Guwahati; Dinobandhu Saha, regional director, My Bharat, NER, govt of India; and Ranjan Kr Kakati, director, Students’ Welfare, Gauhati University.
In the welcome address, Ranjan Kr Kakati spoke on the central role of the youth in spreading awareness, reducing stigma, and encouraging healthy lifestyle, noting that the Red Ribbon Youth Conclave provides a space to develop youth leaders as agents of change.Prof Dhruba Saharia highlighted the value of embedding awareness activities in academic settings and motivating students to take part in social initiatives.Students, NSS volunteers, and Red Ribbon Club members participated actively, reflecting a shared resolve among educational institutions, govt bodies, and youth to work towards an HIV/AIDS-free society.
