Pune: A gang of four men used a gas cutter to break open two ATMs at Pandare village in Baramati taluka, decamping with Rs14.19 lakh in cash in the early hours of Wednesday.While the suspects spray-painted the CCTV cameras inside the kiosk to hide their tracks, they were unaware that cameras installed within the dispensing machines had captured clear images of their faces.According to Pune Rural police, the Baramati ATMs were located on the premises of a public sector bank, though their operations were managed by a private firm. The theft was discovered on Wednesday morning when a bank employee arrived for work, noticed the mangled machines, and alerted the manager.“The suspects used a gas cutter to slice through the machines. They stole Rs11.93 lakh from one unit and Rs2.26 lakh from the other,” a police officer said.Police investigations revealed that before striking in Baramati, the same gang had targeted an ATM in Khandala, Satara district, around 3.30 am on Wednesday, stealing Rs2.34 lakh. The total haul from the inter-district spree stands at over Rs16.5 lakh.The Pune Rural police have obtained the images of the suspects from the internal ATM cameras and have launched a coordinated operation with Satara police to trace the gang.
