Berhampur: In a major drug haul, Gajapati police on Friday seized around 4.06 tonnes of ganja worth around Rs 4 crore from Keshariguda village under Adava police station limits. The seized ganja is the highest in recent times, police sources said.Acting on a tip-off, police conducted massive raids in the village involving 100 police personnel and led by sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), R.Udayagiri, Rakesh Sahoo early in the morning. The contraband was seized from different places in the village suspected to have been stored to be transported illegally to some other areas in the state and outside, said SP (Gajapati) Jatindra Panda.No one was arrested in this connection. “The accused persons, including the mastermind fled into the nearby forest after spotting the police vehicles,” said the SDPO.Packed in the plastic jerry bags, the accused stored the bags in different places, including residential houses and cow-sheds. During the search, they found 202 ganja-packed jerry bags, he said.He said a case was registered under different sections of the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance) Act against the unknown persons in Adava police station. Search was on to nab the accused persons.It was the second major ganja haul in the district in a week. On March 20, they had seized around 700 kg ganja worth Rs 70 lakh from Rajapur village. No one was arrested.
