Times News NetworkKanpur: Ganga was in spate towards Shuklaganj Unnao due to rain in the hills, with its water level crossing the warning mark and entering low-lying areas, triggering panic.In 24 hours, the river level crossed the 112 metres warning mark and reached 112.020 metres. The district administration remained on full alert and instructed to continuously monitor the situation and prepare shelter sites, including setting up one ‘Raen Baseras’ and two shelter sites.It may be noted that at 6 am on Wednesday, the Ganga’s water level reached 112.020 metres, which meant the river was flowing two centimetres above the warning mark of 112 metres.ADM (City) Sushil Kumar said the administration has made full preparations. The continuously rising water level is being monitored. The danger mark for the Ganga is 113.000 metres.On Wednesday morning, 2,74,985 cusecs of water was discharged from Ganga Barrage. At the same time, 1,07,550 cusecs from Haridwar and 1,11,969 cusecs from Narora reached the Ganga.In view of the continuously rising water level, there was apprehension that the water might rise further in the coming days.Due to the rising water level, the district administration had already opened 30 gates of Ganga Barrage.Barricading was done at the Parmat temple ghat and the entry of devotees for bathing was stopped.Additional police force and water police were deployed at the ghat. Warning banners were put up on the walls, appealing to people not to enter deep water and to maintain a safe distance from the river. Boat operations were banned in the Ganga Barrage area.However, for the movement of villages in the Katri area, boats were continuing to operate from other ghats as per rules. In view of bathing during Shrawan, the administration issued instructions for special monitoring and vigilance at the ghats.
