Chennai: A 20-year-old history-sheeter, Ajay alias ‘Baliyaadu’, of Otteri, was hacked to death by a four-member gang at Washermanpet late on Sunday night. Police suspect previous enmity to be the motive and have launched a manhunt for the assailants.Police said Ajay was a history-sheeter and had more than five criminal cases, including murder, attempted murder and drug peddling, pending against him.Police said he dropped his associate, Kaajal, 24, at her residence in the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board tenements at Washermanpet at around 11.30pm. He was returning home on his motorcycle when four men, travelling on two motorcycles, intercepted him. The gang repeatedly attacked Ajay with sharp-edged weapons, inflicting fatal head injuries before fleeing the scene, said police.Washermanpet police recovered the body and sent it to Government Stanley Medical College Hospital for postmortem.Preliminary investigation revealed that the murder stemmed from previous enmity. Police are examining CCTV footage from the neighbourhood and tracking the suspects involved in the murder.
