MUMBAI: Petrol price in Mumbai rose from Rs 108.49 to Rs 111.21 on Monday, an increase of Rs 2.72 per litre.Diesel price in Mumbai rose from Rs 95.02 to Rs 97.83, an increase of Rs 2.81 per litre.The hike is approximately Rs 8 in fuel prices in 11 days.“The transport sector across the country is already under severe financial stress due to continuously rising operational costs and stagnant freight rates. The present fuel shortages and restrictions on diesel supply to commercial vehicles may create a cascading effect on the entire economy,” said Bal Malkit Singh, former president, All India Motor Transport Congress.This repeated increase in prices is expected to have a major impact on household budgets and inflation in the city. The ongoing fuel price surge coupled with fuel shortages being reported in some parts of the country has become a matter of serious concern for the transport and logistics sector, said a state transporter.Just a couple of days ago, petrol prices in the city went up from Rs 107.6 to Rs 108.5 per litre, while diesel prices increased from Rs 94.1 to Rs 95 per litre. The revised prices have once again added burden to the commuters and businesses.
