Guwahati: Tezpur University strengthened its partnership with the Indian Army by signing a second memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Gajraj Corps (IV Corps) to promote capacity-building, research and development, internships and field-exposure programmes for students and faculty.The MoU was signed recently by Tezpur University pro vice-chancellor Prof. Amarendra Kr Das and IV Corps general officer commanding Lt Gen Neeraj Shukla at the Corps headquarters in Tezpur. IV Corps also signed separate MoUs with Gauhati University and Rajiv Gandhi University.Under the expanded partnership, 10 Tezpur University students visited forward areas of Arunachal Pradesh from Sept 15 to 19 as part of the Bharat Rannbhoomi Darshan initiative, organised by the Gajraj Corps. The tour covered Missamari, West Kameng, Tawang and Bum La, offering students first-hand exposure to the region’s military history, border geography, local culture and high-altitude life.Students from Gauhati University and Rajiv Gandhi University, Itanagar, also participated in the wider programme.“The Indian Army will, subject to operational and security considerations, share its knowledge, experience and best practices with Tezpur University,” the university said in a media release. In return, the university will contribute its academic expertise, research capabilities and institutional resources to the Army.“A key objective of the MoU is to enhance the understanding of Army personnel regarding the anthropological, socio-cultural, geographical, political, historical, security and developmental aspects of the northeast. The partnership also envisages deeper engagement with local societies, cultures and aspirations, as well as contemporary information environments and issues relating to narratives and perception management,” the release said.The first MoU between Tezpur University and IV Corps was signed in 2023 for a 16-week Chinese-language training programme for Army personnel. It aimed to strengthen Mandarin-language skills for professional engagements, including commander-level talks, flag meetings and border personnel meetings.
