Amritsar: From hockey fields to his family’s field, Olympian Jarmanpreet Singh is balancing national duty while staying rooted to tradition.The Indian defender, who returned home with an Asiad gold medal, recently shared a video of himself driving a tractor and ploughing his fields in Razadan village, around 50km from Amritsar, with a Sidhu Moosewala song playing in the background and the caption: ‘Nation duty – home duty’. He is prepping the family land for sowing of wheat, around a fortnight from now.Jarmanpreet is also an income-tax officer posted in Bengaluru but when he’s back home, he is his element. The six-footer, whose towering presence is unmistakable on the blue turf, has no hesitation in doing his part for the family. “Every child should fulfil their responsibilities towards their parents and spend enough time with the family,” was his message to the youth.Every time there is a break between tournaments, he makes it a point to return to his roots. “Your parents always stand by you, so must you. Spend time with them,” is his message to youngsters.Jarmanpreet’s sporting achievements include gold medals at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, and the 2026 Asian Games in Japan, a silver medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, and bronze at the 2024 Paris Olympics.Jarmanpreet will now prepare for the next Asian Champions Trophy campaign being hosted by the Punjab govt and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
