BENGALURU: An MBA graduate and alleged counterfeit currency kingpin has been arrested for the second time after police busted a fake currency printing unit operating on the outskirts of Bengaluru.Rudresh, who was arrested in 2024 in a major counterfeit currency case, was nabbed in a joint operation by the Tumakuru and Madanayakanahalli police from Gangondanahalli near Madanayakanahalli.According to police, Rudresh was the prime accused in a counterfeit racket unearthed by Davanagere police in 2024, which allegedly circulated nearly Rs 20 lakh worth of fake currency within three months. After recently securing release from prison, he allegedly resumed the illegal operation and restarted counterfeit note production. The latest breakthrough came during the investigation of a cheating case reported in Tumakuru district. On July 2, a 56-year-old grocery shop owner, Anjana Shetty, from Hosahalli Kaimara in CN Halli taluk, alleged that two men travelling in a blue Maruti Alto purchased a packet of cigarettes and paid with a Rs 500 note. After returning Rs 370 as change, the shopkeeper later became suspicious of the note and discovered it was counterfeit.Based on the complaint filed at Huliyaru police station, a special team comprising personnel from Huliyaru and Madanayakanahalli police launched an investigation. Vehicle tracking and technical surveillance eventually led officers to Rudresh’s hideout in Gangondanahalli.Police raided the premises and seized counterfeit currency notes. Further investigation is underway to determine the scale of the operation and identify other members of the network.
