Chandigarh: A fresh bomb threat email sent to multiple schools in Chandigarh triggered mass evacuations and panic on Wednesday, prompting security agencies to launch extensive anti-sabotage searches across the city. The email claimed that improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and drones would be used to target educational institutions. The message also contained threats against ministers, referenced possible attacks around Independence Day, and warned the public against travelling by trains in Delhi and Haryana.Upon receiving the information, Chandigarh Police deployed security personnel, bomb disposal squads, and dog squads to conduct thorough sweep operations on campuses. Staff and students were evacuated as a precautionary measure, and access to school buildings was temporarily restricted.Officials confirmed that no suspicious objects had been found during the searches up to the time of filing this report. Authorities have urged the public to remain calm, emphasising that every threat is treated with utmost seriousness.Meanwhile, police have registered a criminal case and initiated a high-level investigation. Cyber security experts are analysing email headers, IP addresses, and digital evidence to track the sender and establish whether the threat originated domestically or from abroad. While similar mass email threats have been issued to regional educational institutions in the past, all were found to be hoaxes. Following Wednesday’s scare, vigilance has been heightened at all sensitive installations, public places, and educational hubs across Chandigarh.
