Nagpur: French technical expert Basile returned to Nagpur on Monday evening and was back at the Futala musical fountain site again following his arrival as the restoration project entered another crucial stage with indoor electrical works 100% completed and LED installation gathering pace.Basile, who is expected to remain in the city for nearly a week, will review the progress made since his last visit and supervise the next phase of technical works before the project moves closer to trial runs, a senior MahaMetro official confirmed. Officials said his inspection will primarily focus on the electrical systems, specialised pump infrastructure and integration of various components installed over the past few weeks.According to officials associated with the project, indoor cable connections have now been completed in full, along with the electrical panel network that will control the fountain’s operations. Installation of LED lighting has also begun on the floating fountain platform beneath a specially designed canopy, marking another key milestone in the restoration process.Recently, the project has also overcome an unexpected hurdle during the restoration. Several specialised nozzles imported from France were found missing from the floating fountain structure during the prolonged shutdown, necessitating fresh procurement of key components as reported earlier by TOI. The incident led the contractor to strengthen security arrangements at the site as work resumed.The Futala musical fountain has remained defunct for nearly two years after prolonged closure led to deterioration of critical electrical infrastructure. Since MahaMetro took over the restoration, the project has progressed in phases, including replacement of the specialised cable network, refurbishment of electrical systems and procurement of specialised pump components from France. Officials said the current visit is expected to play an important role in steering the project towards its commissioning phase.
