Hyderabad: A four-year-old boy was mowed down by a cargo van at Bholakpur on Saturday afternoon while walking near his house.The victim, Srihansh, was the son of Mahesh, a private employee and resident of Ranga Nagar in Bholakpur.According to the police, the incident occurred around 12.10 pm when Srihansh and his mother were returning home from a nearby store. The child was walking about 10 feet behind his mother. As he reached a T-junction in Ranga Nagar, a cargo van turning left failed to notice him and hit the boy.“The driver had reversed the van shortly before taking the left turn. He did not notice the boy in front of the vehicle, and the front wheel ran over him,” said Musheerabad inspector G Rajgopal Reddy.With the help of residents, the child’s mother rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.The van driver was caught at the spot and roughed up by the locals. He was later taken into custody after receiving treatment at a hospital.On the complaint of Mahesh, a case was registered against the accused driver under Section 106(1) (causing death due to negligence) of the BNS.
