Kanpur: A four-year-old boy died after falling into an overflowing open drain in Farrukhabad’s Town Hall area on Saturday, with his body recovered from a field about 500 metres away on Sunday morning, police said.The deceased, the only child of his parents, had left his house to relieve himself but did not return. His mother alerted the family after failing to find him, prompting residents to launch a search.Police and civic department officials searched the drain on suspicion that the child had fallen into it. Locals also joined the overnight operation, while an NDRF team also reached the site. Two JCB machines were used to clean the drain, but the child could not be found during the night.The search resumed on Sunday, and the child’s body was recovered from a field around 8.30 am. Police sent the body for postmortem.Residents said the drain outside the family’s house was about four feet deep and partly uncovered. Four days of rain had caused waterlogging and left drains overflowing.Police said the water apparently carried the body through a culvert and pipe before it reached the field.
