Chandigarh: Four athletes from Chandigarh have been selected to represent India at the Cadet & Junior Asian Judo Championships 2026, following their outstanding performances in the selection trials held at Bhopal.Cadet & Junior Asian Judo Championship 2026 are scheduled to be held from 16th to 19th July at Jordan.The selected athletes in the junior category are under 48 kg: Angel Yadav, under 57 kg: Navroop, and under 78 kg: Ishroop Narang.In the cadet category, +78 kg: Divanshi Miglani has been selected.Adding to this remarkable achievement, all four athletes have also been named among the probables for the World Judo Championships 2026, scheduled to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan.Vivek Thakur, Judo coach of the sports council, Chandigarh, has been appointed as a coach of team India for the upcoming Asian Championships.All the selected athletes have been trained by Vivek Thakur from the grassroots level at the Sports Complex, Sector 34-C, Chandigarh, where they have developed into international-level performers through years of dedicated training and hard work.Congratulating the athletes and coach Vivek Thakur, NS Thakur, general secretary, amateur judo association of Chandigarh conveyed his best wishes for their success at the continental and world events. He stated that Chandigarh has consistently emerged as one of the strongest centres of judo in the country, producing 5–10 international judokas and more than 50 national medalists every year, a testament to the city’s strong sporting culture.
