Chennai: Four men were arrested by the Egmore police for cheating a gold wholesale dealer of ₹63 lakh by promising to supply gold at a cheap price. The prime accused remains absconding.Police said Anmol Jain runs a wholesale gold business with his relative, Namith. On learning a person was willing to sell gold at a lower price, Anmol asked his employee Rajendra Jain to bring ₹63 lakh to a mall in Egmore. Two people — Sriram and his father Santhakumar — met him and claimed that they operated a jewellery shop at the mall where he could buy gold in bulk at a discounted price.He then handed over ₹63 lakh to one Sakthi, who assured Anmol that the gold would be delivered at a restaurant near the Anna Flyover. As no one came there, Anmol realised that he had been cheated. On his complaint, the Egmore police arrested Santhakumar, Sriram, Ramkumar and Udaykiran. Officers seized ₹50,000 in cash and two bikes. Sakthi remained absconding.
