New Delhi: Fortis Hospitals in Shalimar Bagh and Vasant Kunj have launched dedicated lung failure clinics to offer care for patients suffering from advanced and end-stage lung diseases.
The corporate hospital chain said the clinics will focus on the management of advanced lung failure, including evaluation for lung transplantation, and provide patients with access to multidisciplinary, end-to-end respiratory care.
This includes pre and post-transplant care coordination, pulmonary rehabilitation, and access to advanced diagnostics such as bronchoscopy, sleep evaluation and non-invasive ventilation support.
The clinics will be led by Dr Govini Balasubramani, Director, Lung Transplant and Advanced Lung Failure, Gleneagles Hospital Chennai, Dr Vikas Maurya, Senior Director and HOD, Respiratory Medicine and Respiratory Critical Care, Fortis Hospital Shalimar Bagh; and Dr Prashant Saxena, Principal Director and Head, Pulmonology, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine, Fortis Hospital Vasant Kunj.
The move comes amid deteriorating air quality in the Delhi NCR region and a rising demand for specialised respiratory care.
Air pollution is increasingly being linked to a rise in severe respiratory, cardiovascular, and systemic diseases.
As per a recent study published in the journal of Natural Health, PM2.5 emerged as the dominant contributor to the global cancer burden, accounting for approximately 8.82 million attributable cases during the study period,” they said.
About 17.9 per cent of tracheal, bronchial and lung cancer cases could be prevented if exposure to PM2.5 was removed or addressed, the study found.
