Lucknow: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) arrested the former manager of a school in connection with the alleged embezzlement of nearly ₹1 crore in scholarship funds meant for students belonging to SC, OBC, minority communities and the general category in Etawah district.The accused, Lal Singh, was arrested from Friends Colony in Etawah on Monday evening, the EOW said in a statement on Tuesday.According to investigators, the scam dates back to the 2008-09 academic session, when managers and principals of 27 non-existent schools allegedly fraudulently claimed scholarship funds by inflating the number of students enrolled in Classes I to V. The scholarship amount was subsequently misappropriated.The case was registered as FIR No. 673/2009 at Civil Lines police station in Etawah under Sections 420 (cheating), 467, 468, 471 (forgery-related offences), 120B (criminal conspiracy), 204 of the IPC, along with Section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The investigation was transferred to the EOW, Kanpur Sector, on the directions of state govt.During the investigation, Lal Singh, who served as the manager of the non-existent Sant B.D.S. Public School at Manikpur Mod, Etawah, was found to have prepared forged scholarship requisition documents and fraudulently obtained scholarship funds in the names of fictitious students, resulting in their alleged embezzlement.The EOW said further legal proceedings are underway.
