CHENNAI: Former finance minister Thangam Thennarasu on Thursday accused chief minister C Joseph-led TVK govt of mismanaging Tamil Nadu‘s economy, citing a decline in GST collections for three consecutive months with the contraction reaching 5%.In a social media post, Thennarasu stated that Tamil Nadu had recorded double-digit growth in GST collections and outperformed other states during the previous DMK regime. He expressed concern over the recent decline, alleging that industrial production had stagnated and consumption had shrunk in the state even as other states continued to register industrial growth. The former minister attributed the trend to administrative failures and questioned the govt’s handling of industrial investments and financial management. He contrasted the current economic situation with that during the DMK rule. He said DMK govt’s long-term approach to investment and financial management had helped drive growth.“What answer does the ruling govt have for the economic deterioration,” Thennarasu asked, accusing the govt of failing to sustain the state’s earlier growth momentum. He attached a bar chart, indicating the GST revenue growth of the major states to drive home his point.
