During the courtroom proceedings, Athena Strand’s uncle, Elijah Strand, told the court that relatives had been left with “an emptiness that can never be filled”.
“You destroyed a family,” he said, speaking to Tanner Horner. “You will feel the wrath of God”.
Horner, the former FedEx delivery driver, was sentenced to death after pleading guilty to the 2022 killing of seven-year-old Athena Strand.
The weeks-long trial included an audio recording of the girl’s final moments inside the attacker’s delivery vehicle.
Horner is set to be executed by lethal injection at a date yet to be determined.
