Bengaluru: A 63-year-old former engineer with the erstwhile BBMP, who was booked last month by the CBI in an old corruption case, died by suicide at his Koramangala residence Wednesday. The deceased, RL Parameshwaraiah, had retired three years ago as a chief engineer and lived with his family in Koramangala IV Block. He left a note in Kannada that read, “I am responsible for my death. Don’t trouble anyone.”According to family sources, Parameshwaraiah was scheduled to appear before the anti-corruption bureau of the CBI Wednesday morning.ACB officials registered an FIR under the Prevention of Corruption Act against him on Jan 30. Earlier, in Dec 2021, I-T raided a civil contractor in the city and seized cash, gold, and land documents from him. In his statement, the contractor had said they belonged to Parameshwaraiah. Later, I-T raided Parameshwaraiah and seized over Rs 86 lakh from a bank locker, with its key in the possession of Parameshwaraiah’s wife. Documents for many land parcels and houses were also seized from him at the time.
