Mumbai: A former caretaker who had stolen valuables worth Rs 12.9 lakh from his employer’s residence in Borivli was arrested by the police along with his associate. The incident had occurred in 2024-2025, but the prime accused had switched off his phone and kept changing his locations, police said.Between Aug 2024 and May 2025, gold and silver ornaments and US dollars were stolen from the bedroom cupboard of a Borivli resident. After he lodged a police complaint, his caretaker, Manoj Mandal (36) became the prime suspect. Mandal had switched off his phone. From Mumbai, he moved to Bihar and then to Rajasthan.After carrying out a probe under the supervision of DCP Sandeep Ghuge, police learnt that Mandal had given away a portion of the stolen valuables to his friend, Sanjeev Hira (33). Both men hailed from Madhubani in Uttar Pradesh. The duo was arrested and brought to Mumbai by Borivli Police.
