Mandya: The forest department on Monday captured a leopard that triggered fear among residents of Golrukoppalu village in KR Pet taluk. The rescue operation brought relief to villagers who were living in fear for the past five days.The male leopard, aged about 4-5 years, was frequently spotted near agricultural fields, forcing farmers to avoid fieldwork. The situation worsened after the animal killed a calf a few days ago, prompting the forest department to intensify efforts to capture it. On July 7, the forest officials installed a trap cage in the area after monitoring the leopard’s movement.On Monday morning, the animal was found trapped inside the cage. After the villagers alerted the forest department, officials reached the spot and secured the leopard.The leopard will be shifted to a suitable forest habitat after a veterinary examination and necessary formalities, forest officials said.
